The fireplaces are one of the most popular features at the two newest Druthers restaurants designed by Sensory Six. And for good reasons -- fireplaces naturally draw us in, give a room focus and add to our feeling of relaxation and well-being.
As Fall approaches, now is a good time to either add a fireplace or update your current one and the space around it. Here are some hot ideas to flame your imagination. As always, we are here to help you.
Design around the fireplace. Careful selection and placement of furniture and accessories is essential with fireplaces. One of the biggest mistakes people make is putting a flat screen television above the mantel. This is bad for the electronics, your neck and back and detracts from the beauty of the fireplace.
Think outside the great room. Fireplaces make wonderful additions inside and outside the home. Have you considered adding one to the master bath? Imagine soaking in a claw foot tub with a blazing fire in the corner. Or how about the most used room in the house – your kitchen? Imagine how that would tantalize your taste buds. If you have a library, what could be better than a good book and glowing embers? Or on your patio on a cold autumn night, warmed by a beautiful outside fireplace?
Treat your fireplace as art. The mantel and surround offer endless possibilities with wood, stone, tile and other materials. Just like lighting, artisan fireplaces are a work of art themselves with texture and color playing major roles. The fireplace is the heart of the home and should reflect your own heart and soul.
Set the tone of your space. Do you want a room with a natural look? Serene with an edge? Dramatic? So much can be done to refurbish an old fireplace and take it from ordinary to extraordinary. Or if you are constructing new home or office, building in fireplaces – particularly with our winters – will give your space lasting appeal.
